Bills Look to Add Quarterback with Yates Sidelined

The Bills are looking to add a fourth quarterback with TJ Yates sidelined with a concussion.  The injury occurred late in the Ravens game.  Tyrod Taylor also suffered a concussion early in the first quarter.  This leaves rookie Nathan Peterman as the only healthy quarterback.  Coach Sean McDermott said he and general manager Brandon Beane are looking to bring in a veteran quarterback prior to Thursdays preseason finale against the Lions.  Possible candidates include Christian Ponder, Shaun Hill, Charlie Whitehurst, and Zach Mettenberger.  Ponder briefly played for Rick Dennison with the Broncos in 2015.  THE UNEXPECTED INJURIES TO TAYLOR AND YATES UNDERSCORE THE CRISIS AT QUARTERBACK.  PETERMAN THE ROOKIE HAS EMERGED AS THE MOST VIABLE QB PROSPECT.  THROUGH 3 PRESEASON GAMES HE IS 34 OF 68 FOR 372 YARDS, A TOUCHDOWN, AND 71.4 QUARTERBACK RATING.  HE DESERVES THE STARTING BERTH.  LOOKING FOR THE BILLS TO BRING IN AN EXPERIENCED BACKUP, WE COME TOGETHER AS 1BUFFALO.

Tyrod Taylor is out with a concussion as the  the Bills fell to the Ravens 13 – 9.  It was Buffalo’s third consecutive preseason loss.  Taylor’s injury occurred in the second offensive series when he was sacked by Matthew Judon.  He was replaced by rookie Nathan Peterman who later led an 11 play 83 yard touchdown drive.  On the night he completed 11 of 23 passes for 93 yards and a quarterback rating of 58.8.  Penalties continue to plague the Bills, with 7 flags in the first half.  Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was sent home for an unspecified infraction of team rules.  THE BILLS ARE CLEARLY A TEAM IN PROFOUND TROUBLE.  WITH ONE PRESEASON GAME REMAINING, THEY HAVE YET TO FIND THEIR MARK.  THE CRISIS AT QUARTERBACK, EXCESSIVE PENALTIES, AND  DYSFUNCTION IN THE FRONT OFFICE UNDERMINE CREDIBLE PERFORMANCES BY THE DEFENSE.  LOOKING FOR AN ELUSIVE TURN AROUND, WE STRUGGLE TO REMAIN 1BUFFALO.

The Bills have their work cut out when they take on the Ravens tonight at 7 P.M.  Baltimore is 2 – 0 in preseason action.  They are coming off back-to-back victories over the Redskins 23 – 3 and Dolphins 31 – 7.  Their defense is ranked first in the league in total defense.  Quarterback Joe Flacco is sidelined with injury and will miss the matchup.  FANS WILL GET THEIR FIRST REAL LOOK AT TYROD TAYLOR, WHO IS EXPECTED TO PLAY INTO THE THIRD QUARTER.  HE HAS STRUGGLED THROUGHOUT THE PRESEASON WITH AN ABYSMAL QUARTERBACK RANKING OF 12.0.  IT WILL BE AN UPHILL BATTLE AS HE THROWS TO A NEW GROUP OF RECEIVERS.  NERVOUS OVER THE TEAM’S PROSPECTS, WE AWAIT KICKOFF AS 1BUFFALO.

The Bills will travel to Baltimore for the third preseason game Saturday night.  It will be a dress rehearsal for the regular season.  Coach Sean McDermott has said he will play the starters through the third quarter.  All eyes will be on Tyrod Taylor as he tries to ignite the offense.  Through the first 2 preseason games he has completed only 13 of 26 passes for 99 yards. 5 of those receptions were to players no longer with the team.  Penalties continue to plague the Bills with 34 red flags in the first 2 games.  SATURDAY’S CONTEST WILL BE A TRUE TEST OF THE REVAMPED OFFENSE.  IT’S MAKE OR BREAK TIME FOR TAYLOR AS HE BATTLES TO RETAIN THE STARTING BERTH.  WITH ANTICIPATION RUNNING HIGH, WE LOOK FOR IMPROVED FOOTBALL AS 1BUFFALO.

Owner Terry Pegula is clearly to blame for the team’s misfortunes.  Entering his fourth year as owner, he has yet to establish control over a floudering organization.  The devastating trades of Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby could not have been made without his approval.  The ill-considered decision to retain Tyrod Taylor as caretaker quarterback only prolongs the misery.  PEGULA IS ESSENTIALLY WRITING OFF THIS SEASON AND ALLOWING THE TEAM TO TANK.  HIS STRATEGY IS EVIDENTLY TO TAKE A QUARTERBACK IN NEXT YEAR’S DRAFT AND REBUILD.  THIS YEAR IS ALREADY OVER BEFORE THE REGULAR SEASON BEGAN.  ANGERED BY THE OWNER’S DISREGARD OF HIS FANS, WE FEEL ABANDONED AS 1BUFFALO.

The Bills are not interested in trading running back LeSean McCoy.  They released a statement to dispel rumors from a Denver sportscaster that he is being shopped.  McCoy is the Bills best player on offense, having put up 1,623 yards and 14 touchdowns last year.  TO TRADE McCOY WOULD BE THE EPITOME OF LUNACY.  AFTER THE TRADES OF SAMMY WATKINS AND RONALD DARBY THAT WOULD BE THE FINAL BLOW.  THE FEAR IS THAT MANAGEMENT HAS WRITTEN OFF THIS SEASON AND WILL ALLOW THE TEAM TO TANK.  DISGUSTED BY THE DYSFUNCTION AT ONE BILLS DRIVE,  WE HOLD OUR BREATH AS 1BUFFALO.

Joe Kelly, father of Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, has died.  The announcement was made by Jim on Instagram.  The elder Kelly led an inspirational life.  Raised in an orphanage, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.  He later married and raised 6 sons.  He endured the hardships of a machinist in Pennsylvania mills.  The family home was in East Brady near Pittsburgh.  THAT JIM AROSE FROM HIS HUMBLE CHILDHOOD TO BECOME AN ALL-TIME NFL GREAT IS TRULY REMARKABLE.  HE LED THE BILLS TO 4 SUPER BOWL APPEARANCES IN THE 1990s.  EXPRESSING SYMPATHY TO THE ENTIRE KELLY FAMILY AT THEIR PATRIARCH’S PASSING, WE UNITE AS 1BUFFALO.

Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin has retired from football, citing his humanitarian work.  He had spent less than 2 weeks with the Bills.  Boldin had one reception for 5 yards in last weeks Eagles game.  The future Hall of Famer is said to be dismayed with the trade of Sammy Watkins which deflated Buffalo’s prospects for the playoffs.  A former recipient of the Walter Payton Player of the Year award, he played 14 seasons in the league.  He is ranked ninth overall with 1,076 catches and fourteenth with 13,779 receiving yards.  BOLDIN’S UNEXPECTED DEPARTURE UNDERSCORES THE CHAOS IN THE BILLS RANKS.  AT AGE 36 HE DID NOT WANT TO RISK INJURY IN A LOSING CAUSE.  HIS RETIREMENT LEAVES THE BILLS WOEFULLY DEPLETED AT WIDE RECEIVER.  STRUGGLING TO MAKE SENSE OF THESE DEVELOPMENTS, WE SHAKE OUR HEADS AS 1BUFFALO.

There is a crisis at quarterback for the Bills.  Heading into the third preseason game Tyrod Taylor is underperforming and profoundly disappointing.  He threw 2 interceptions against Philadelphia.  His training camp was underwhelming.  Rookie Nathan Peterman is catching fire, looking sharp in the pocket.  He has edged out TJ Yates, who was supposed to be the favored backup, having played for Rick Dennison with the Texans.  THE BENCHING OF TAYLOR A FEW WEEKS INTO THE REGULAR SEASON IS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY.  HIS DAYS ARE CLEARLY NUMBERED GIVEN THE 10 MILLION DOLLAR SALARY REDUCTION HE AGREED TO.  PETERMAN MAY GET THE CALL TO RIDE OUT THE SEASON.  FLUSH WITH 6 PICKS IN THE FIRST 2 ROUNDS  NEXT YEAR, THE TEAM WILL LOOK TO THE 2018 DRAFT WITH ITS RICH CLASS OF QUARTERBACKS.  UNSETTLED BY THE QB DILEMMA, WE STRUGGLE TO BE 1BUFFALO.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott offered a lukewarm endorsement of Tyrod Taylor.  After Thursdays loss to the Eagles, McDermott said all player positions will be evaluated.  Yesterday he changed his tune, emphasizing that Taylor remains the starting quarterback.  He added that he has all the confidence in the world in Taylor.  Those brave words belie the crisis at quarterback.  TAYLOR HAS STRUGGLED THROUGHOUT THE PRESEASON.  AGAINST PHILADELPHIA HE WAS ONLY 8 OF 18 FOR 53 YARDS AND 2 INTERCEPTIONS.  ROOKIE BACKUP NATHAN PETERMAN IS COMING ON STRONG.  SENSING THAT THE POSITION IS UP FOR GRABS, WE EXPECTANTLY REMAIN 1BUFFALO.
