Bills Perilous Prediction

The Bills are headed for an 8 – 8 season under new head coach Sean McDermott.  Expect a solid, more disciplined team that is competitive but still falls short.  Buffalo is likely to finish third in the AFC East behind New England and Miami.  Tyrod Taylor is a caretaker quarterback who will be gone next year.  The loss of crucial veterans such as Stephon Gilmore in the offseason compounds the problem.  THE BILLS ARE REBUILDING FOR THE FUTURE.  OWNERS TERRY AND KIM PEGULA MUST BE PATIENT WHILE McDERMOTT PRUNES THE ROSTER AND BUILDS THROUGH THE DRAFT.  LOOKING FOR ENTERTAINING FOOTBALL AND AN ELUSIVE BREAKTHROUGH, WE UNITE AS 1BUFFALO.

LSU and Florida will compete in this year’s college world series.  The best of 3  championship series begins Monday in Omaha. It will be televised on ESPN.  LSU advanced to the finals by beating out Oregon State, which had won 23 straight games before losing on Friday and forcing an elimination game.  Florida shutout TCU 3 – 0 to make the finals.  THE MUCH ANTICIPATED MATCH UP PAIRS 2 OF COLLEGE’S BEST TEAMS.  THERE IS A LONG LOCAL  TRADITION OF SUPPORTING BASEBALL.  THE MINOR LEAGUE BISONS ARE THE THIRD JEWEL IN THE LOCAL SPORTS CROWN ALONG WITH TERRY PEGULA’S BILLS AND SABRES.  STEADFAST IN SUPPORT FOR ALL OUR TEAMS, WE FAITHFULLY REMAIN 1BUFFALO.

The AFC East odds favor New England in the upcoming season.  The Las Vegas line pegs the Patriots at -2,500 to take the division championship.  The Dolphins are next at +800, followed by the Bills at +1,500 and the Jets at +6,000.  New England has won the division in each of the last 8 years and 13 times out of the last 14.  BILLS FANS ACCEPT THE REALITY OF THE PATRIOTS DOMINANCE.  THE BEST WE CAN HOPE FOR ANYTIME SOON IS A WILDCARD BERTH.  THE CHALLENGE IS DAUNTING, GIVE THE BILLS TOUGH SCHEDULE.  LOOKING FOR OUR GUYS TO TRY THEIR BEST, WE ARE LOYAL AS 1BUFFALO.

Pro Football Focus is forecasting an 8 – 8 season for the Bills.  The team has hovered around 500 in each of the last 3 years, going 7 – 9 in 2016.  The article cites the critical role of returning veterans.  Marcell Dareus and a healthy Sammy Watkins should keep the Bills competitive.  While predicting a solid year, the Bills are expected to again miss the playoffs.  Top seed is given to New England, Pittsburgh, and LA Raiders.  THE FAITHFUL CAN EXPECT SPIRITED PLAY THAT AGAIN FALLS SHORT.  McDERMOTT, BEANE, AND TAYLOR WILL ALL BE VYING FOR JOB SECURITY.  HOPING FOR THE BEST BUT REMAINING REALISTIC, WE REMAIN 1BUFFALO.

Sean McDermott has been ranked 29th among Bills head coaches. places him near the bottom of the pack.  It does acknowledge his close working relationship with new general manager Brandon Beane.  It also cites McDermott’s eight years as defensive coordinator for Carolina and Philadelphia.  His teams made the playoffs in 5 of those seasons.  IT IS TOO SOON TO JUDGE McDERMOTT.  HE HAS YET TO OVERSEE ONE GAME AS HEAD COACH.  PULLING FOR HIM TO SUCCEED IN HIS NEW ROLE, WE SHOW SUPPORT AS 1BUFFALO.

New England quarterback Tom Brady is favored by the oddsmakers to win the Most Valuable Player award.  The long-time Bills nemesis is pegged at +400.  He is followed by the Packers Aaron Rodgers and Seahawks Russell Wilson, both at +1000.  The Steelers Ben Roethlisberger and Cowboys Dak Prescott are currently at +1100.  Buffalo native Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots is given +6600.  THE LINE IS THAT NEW ENGLAND WILL REPEAT AS SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS.  THE PERENNIAL POWERHOUSE IS LIKELY TO CLOSE OUT THE BILLS IN AFC EAST ACTION.  ACCEPTING THE REALITY OF PATRIOTS DOMINATION, WE NONETHELESS HOLD OUT HOPE AS 1BUFFALO.

The Las Vegas oddsmakers peg Alabama at 3 – 1 to sweep the college football championship.  With the fall season just months away the line is shaping up on this year’s action.  Perennial powerhouse Ohio State is a close second at 4 – 1.  Then come Florida State and USC at 7 – 1.  Oklahoma, Michigan, and LSU follow at 15 – 1.  Rounding out the top contenders are Penn State and Clemson at 20 – 1.  WITH TRAINING CAMPS SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN A MONTH FOOTBALL IS AGAIN IN THE AIR.  THE RIVALRIES WILL BE INTENSE AMONG THE NATIONAL FAVORITES.  LOOKING FOR SPIRITED COLLEGE AND PRO COMPETITION, WE AWAIT KICKOFF AS 1BUFFALO.

The oddmakers favor the Patriots to repeat this year as Super Bowl champions.  The Westgate Las Vegas Super Book pegs New England at 3 – 1 to win Super Bowl LII.  They are followed by Dallas at 8 – 1 and Green Bay at 10 – 1.  The perennial also-ran Bills are out of contention at 90 – 1.  ANOTHER REBUILDING SEASON IS IN STORE FOR BUFFALO AS DIVISION RIVAL NEW ENGLAND WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE THE AFC EAST.  EVEN A 500 FINISH FOR THE BILLS WILL NOT GET THEM INTO THE PLAYOFFS.  DISHEARTENED BUT REALISTIC, WE HOPE FOR THE BEST AS 1BUFFALO.

Speculation is running high whether there will be a new stadium in the Bills future.  Owners Terry and Kim Pegula have recently purchased 2 properties in the Cobblestone District downtown.  The adjoining land is the logical place to construct a domed all-weather arena.  Such a facility would be a source of civic pride and renewal.  It would complement the Pegula’s Harbor Center Marriott hotel and hockey complex.  VARIOUS PROPOSALS HAVE BEEN ADVANCED FOR A STATE OF THE ART VENUE.  IT WOULD LIKELY BE A COLLABORATION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MONEY.  THE PEGULAS HAVE BEEN MUM ON THEIR INTENTIONS.  LOOKING FOR THEIR TOP-DOWN LEADERSHIP TO SPEARHEAD A NEW STADIUM, WE EXPECTANTLY WAIT AS 1BUFFALO.

Now that minicamp is over, the Bills have 6 weeks to prepare for training camp.  The team is at a crossroads with new head coach, coaching staff, general manager, and scouts.  Sean McDermott has established himself as the dominant voice of the team reporting to owner Terry Pegula.  Clearly he is under pressure to improve upon the standings of the last 3 seasons which have hovered around 500.  He has a daunting task, given the caretaker quarterback and thin ranks at receiver.  THE FAITHFUL CAN EXPECT A MORE DISCIPLINED SQUAD.  WHETHER THIS TRANSLATES INTO MORE VICTORIES IS UNKNOWN.  HOPING FOR A TURNAROUND, BILLS FANS ONCE AGAIN REGROUP AS 1BUFFALO.
